New Student Leaders Attend the C11 Leadership Training Summit

Club Thrive in Joy is gearing up for the 2024-2025 academic year! 13 Club Thrive in Joy students, selected to be Club Leaders, recently attended the three-day Summer Leadership Training Summit at The Bond Collective in Downtown Los Angeles. This vibrant coworking space, where Thrive in Joy recently took a small office, provided the perfect environment for the young leaders to hone their collaboration, team building, and public speaking skills. Thrive in Joy’s C11 program will now be active at five Los Angeles high schools serving students from low-income communities: USC Hybrid High College Prep in South LA, Esperanza High College Prep in East LA, Alliance Dr. Olga Mohan High in DTLA, University Values Prep in Pico Union, and East Los Angeles Renaissance Academy in East LA.

Days Packed with Learning and Growth

Day 1:

The summit kicked off with introductions to Thrive in Joy’s mission and the specific roles and responsibilities of Club Leaders. Students delved into the core of their leadership journey by exploring the C11 character strengths framework. To break the ice and build connections, a lively round of “Getting to Know You” bingo set a friendly tone for the days ahead.

Day 2:

The momentum continued with a dynamic activity dubbed “speed traiting,” where teams guessed each other’s character strengths. This interactive approach not only encouraged self-discovery but also highlighted the strengths each participant brings to the leadership table. Through collaborative exercises like dotting posters with their identified character strengths, students celebrated both their shared and unique attributes. Valuable insights were shared during a panel featuring past club leaders and advisors, enriching the incoming leaders with practical wisdom and inspiration.

Day 3:

The final day was all about application and preparation for real-world scenarios. Students engaged in hands-on activities such as planning and leading club meetings, crafting gratitude jars, and strategizing for Club Rush—an event aimed at recruiting new members. The day culminated in a celebration of achievements with certificates of completion and a delicious cake to mark the beginning of their leadership journey.

Celebrating Growth and Community

The C11 Leadership Training Summit not only equipped students with essential leadership skills but also fostered a sense of community and camaraderie among future leaders. Each participant left with a deeper understanding of their strengths and a renewed enthusiasm to make a positive impact within their schools. Stay tuned for updates on how these young leaders are transforming their school communities through strength of character and entrepreneurial social impact!
